A new series of protests and strikes has started in Israel since Sunday after the dead bodies of six Israeli hostages were found in the Gaza tunnel. The Israeli army says they were killed shortly before it arrived there.
After all this, a wave of anger arose among the families of the hostages. They asked the rest of the people to join them in the protest, which immediately led to crowds of people gathering on the main roads of Israel. Everyone is calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for an immediate ceasefire and the release of the hostages.
Many of the anti-government protests are also demanding the resignation of Benjamin Netanyahu. It is being considered as the biggest strike since the October 7 attack by Hamas. Several flights to Tel Aviv’s Bangor Airport have been suspended. All major markets in the city are closed and people are protesting against the government on the streets. People say that the government itself is responsible for all this because it delayed the hostage deal with Hamas.
The names of the died hostages are Carmel Gott, Aiden Yershalmi, Hirsch Goldberg Pollen, Alexander Lubano, Almog Sarosi and Master Sajtavari Danino. Three of them were to be released in July, but it could not be done due to Israeli stubbornness.
Who carried out and Support this Protest and Strike?
These protests are getting great support from the opposition. The opposition leader has supported these demonstrations and invited all Israelis to participate in them. Along with this, the country’s largest trade union, Histadrut, was the first to call for the strike, which was to continue for just two days. But it dragged on and worsened the situation. People were chanting various slogans, one of which was related to Netanyahu saying, “If you are the ruler, you will be blamed.”
International and Domestic Pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu:
In view of all this, the pressure on the Israeli government has increased at the international level as well as at the national level. The Israeli government says that they will continue to track down the killers of the hostages۔ Britain has suspended the supply of some weapons to Israel. Britain says that it was feared to violate international law.
What did Hamas say about it?
Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, says that a military operation to free Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hostages, rather than a ceasefire, would send the hostages in coffins.
Remember that Israeli army has been killed more than 40,000 people in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
