At least nine people, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed and nearly 3,000 were injured in the blasts that took place in Pagers ( A device also known as a beeper and bleeper is an old form of communication and is used by very few people anymore) in Lebanon on Tuesday.
The explosions occurred at the same time at pagers used by Hezbollah, which are located in Lebanon and Syria. According to a Hezbollah official, the pagers were brand new and had not been used before.
Who could be behind these explosions?
According to experts, the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad could be behind this type of attack. According to the AP news , a US official said on condition of anonymity that Israel briefed the US after the operation was completed on Tuesday.
But on the other hand, the United States has expressed its detachment from this whole incident. Israel has also refused to comment on the Pagers blasts.
How did these explosions possibly happen?
So far, it is not known how such a large-scale attack was carried out with such a small device. According to an estimate, these pagers may have been rigged with explosives before reaching Hezbollah and later destroyed all simultaneously with the help of radio signals.
Former British bomb disposal officer Carles Pearce says an explosive device has five basic components, three of which were already present in pagers. He also said that it is possible that at the time of the explosion, half of Pager’s battery was explosive and half was real. Some experts told AP that the planning behind these blasts must have taken several months to two years.
Why did Hezbollah use pagers?
Hezbollah chief Nasrullah forbade his men to have mobile phones because it would allow Israel to closely track their movements. So they were using pagers for communication.
What effect did the Pagers explosions have on Hezbollah?
Two Hezbollah members, including the son of a Hezbollah member of parliament, have been killed in pager blasts. It is now possible that the rest of Hezbollah will stop using pagers and be careful with other electronic devices.
