Is Israel going to conduct ground operations in Lebanon?

Israel’s previous airstrikes on Lebanon make it clear that Israel is preparing for ground operations in Lebanon. Israel’s army chief has also confirmed that they will enter Lebanon soon.

Israel’s Army Chief Herzi Halvi addressed the soldiers and said, “Have you heard the sounds of warplanes?” We have been attacking all day. This prepares the ground for your possible entry and weakens Hezbollah”. It should be remembered that Israel carried out a large number of airstrikes on Lebanon on September 23. As a result of these airstrikes, around 550 people were killed in Lebanon, including children and women. Now Israel is preparing to carry out ground operations in Lebanon.

“We will continue, we are not stopping,” Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi told Israeli soldiers. “We keep targeting them everywhere. The goal is very clear – the safe return of the residents of northern Israel.” He also said “the army was developing a strategy, which means you will enter enemy territory, enter villages that Hezbollah has prepared as large military outposts.”

Why does Israel want to take ground action?

It should be remembered that since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, Israel has caused widespread destruction in Gaza. As a result of this war, Hezbollah attacked Israel as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinians, which saw an increase in tensions between them. Meanwhile, rocket attacks have been exchanged several times from both sides.

Hezbollah blamed Israel for last week’s pager and walkie-talkie attacks in Lebanon, saying it would take revenge for all of them. A few days ago, Israel launched airstrikes on Lebanon, killing hundreds of people.

More than 60,000 people were displaced from northern Israel after successive attacks by Hezbollah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is determined to bring these people back to their homes and wants to end Hezbollah.

This is the reason why Israel will target Hezbollah’s bases by conducting ground operations in Lebanon after the airstrikes.

How far will Israel be able to enter Lebanon?

If Israel enters Lebanon for ground operations, it does not intend to go deep into Lebanon. But it can enter and capture towns in southern Lebanon where it suspects Hezbollah is present.

It is also possible that Israel temporarily occupies the area of Lebanon up to the Litani River. A military operation will be carried out in the area up to the Litani River to push back Hezbollah from this area. Because by doing this, when Hezbollah attacks from behind the Litani River, Israel will have defeated it before it reaches northern Israel.

Has Israel done such military operations in the past?

Earlier, Israel has conducted ground military operations in Lebanon in 2006 and 1982. The 1982 military operation was the largest, while the 2006 operation was more limited. It is still believed that Israel is going to repeat the 2006 military operation in Lebanon.

What happened in 2006 Israel-Lebanon War?

In July 2006, a war broke out between Israel and Hezbollah. It started when Hezbollah attacked Israeli soldiers. During the attack, they captured two Israeli soldiers. This made the situation very tense. Israel saw this as an act of war and decided to fight back with military force.

Israel started a military operation to weaken Hezbollah and bring back the captured soldiers. This operation was called the Second Lebanon War. It began with airstrikes that hit places where Hezbollah was active. Later, Israeli soldiers went into southern Lebanon to try and break down Hezbollah’s military power.

The war went on for about a month and caused a lot of damage in Lebanon. Many people on both sides were hurt or killed. A lot of civilians suffered, which made the world very concerned. The fighting finally stopped when the United Nations helped both sides agree to a ceasefire. Even though Israel wanted to reach certain goals, the war had lasting effects on both Israel and Lebanon. People still talk about what happened and what it means for peace in the region.

What happened in 1982 Israel-Lebanon War?

In 1982, Israel started a military attack in Lebanon because there were a lot of problems in the region. The main reason was to stop the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which had been attacking northern Israel from Lebanon. Israel wanted to remove this threat and make the area safer.

The operation started in June 1982, when Israel invaded southern Lebanon. The Israeli army moved quickly toward Beirut. Their goal was to push the PLO fighters away from Israel’s border and help set up a new government in Lebanon that would support Israel. But during the fighting, many civilians were caught in the middle. This caused many deaths and made people around the world very worried.

Israel’s invasion led to a long stay of its army in Lebanon and changed the country’s politics in a big way. Even though Israel wanted to weaken the PLO, the attack was criticized because it hurt many Lebanese civilians. Over time, the fighting added to a bigger civil war in Lebanon. Many different groups started fighting for power, and this caused years of trouble and unrest in the region.
